10 Dollar Deal

by Mika Ortega

November 20, 2006

Google Checkout is definitely something to check out. With deals, fraud protection, and fast service, this site makes online shopping just that much easier.

Part of the package is information on past and current orders. “You can use Google checkout to view your purchase history and track the status of your orders and shipping,” as the site demo mentions. With a simple and free sign-up, keep account of your spending habits and make sure you know exactly when and where your item will arrive.

Sites compatible with Google Checkout are visible by the shopping cart icon listed next to their sponsored link on Google. Search for your product, find a sponsored link with the icon, click, and buy! Until December 31, this process is 10 dollars cheaper than previously too.

The Google Checkout website offers plenty more information for customers as well as online store owners. Take a peek and see what this new service is all about.

Search Engine Alternatives

by Mika Ortega

November 17, 2006

Many great, functional, and quite innovative search engines are overlooked and overshadowed by the web giants Google and Yahoo. Remaining at the top of the search engine market, Google and Yahoo attract millions of visitors to their sites daily and bring in billions of dollars in business revenue annually. The little guys, though, still have plenty to offer Internet surfers as several use cutting edge technology to deliver reliable web results. Take a peek at the following and you may just find yourself “googling” alternative search engines.

Like.com

This one is for the visual people. Allowing you to search by text, type, or celebrity icon, Like.com searches clothing and accessories completely by images you like. Type in your item of choice, select one of the photos, and adjust the variables accordingly. Keep clicking on photos until you narrow your search down to the item of your dreams. Although exclusive to apparel, this site is one you’ll “like.”

MsDewey.com

A full-flash site, MsDewey.com has taken the traditional search engine to the next level. The quirky character on the homepage, Ms. Dewey, adds life and personality to searches and makes comments on keywords. If you take too long to type, Ms. Dewey prompts you with slingshots, knocking, and other witty antics. Check out this search engine and make sure to have you’re sound turned on.

Dogpile.com

If you like the big shots in the search engine market like Google, Yahoo, and MSN, Dogpile is for you. Taking the best results from various sites, Dogpile compiles a list of the most relevant results for you. Search images, video, and much more on this cool site.

Pixsy.com

Pixsy.com is for just what it sounds like- pics. The site says, “We believe that images are more powerful than text and have developed a unique search engine that delivers only visual results, in the form of thumbnail images.” For millions of pictures and video, Pixsy.com is the place to go.
