The Black Friday of the Web: Cyber Monday

by Mika Ortega

November 28, 2006

The first Friday after Thanksgiving marks Black Friday- the day of deals from just about every major retailer on the market. While the craze has an unknown start date, it’s traced back about 30 years, gaining popularity every year since. In fact, it’s become so popular that it’s inspired the online community to have a “Black Friday” of its own: Cyber Monday.

Getting its official start last year, Cyber Monday is the best day of the year to shop online. With offers of free shipping, amazing discounts, and countless deals, online stores attract millions of visitors to their site on this single day. The Chicago Tribune reports, “An estimated 61 million consumers shopped online Monday,” and by noon “visits to online retail sites had already surpassed the 2005 Cyber Monday peak of 3.1 million visitors per minute.”

Don’t kick yourself if this is news to you, though. Cyber Monday has been generously extended by many online stores like Overstock, Best Buy, Home Depot, and Target right on through December. Bringing irresistible deals to the homes of millions across the nation, these businesses will serve quite a number of customers far past Thanksgiving and on through the next year. Log on and take advantage of these select deals while they still last!

Apple Conquers Land and Sky

by Mika Ortega

November 27, 2006

The iPod is the leader of the MP3 market. With a new model put out virtually every six months since its debut, Apple seems to always have something new up their sleeve for consumers. Apple has recently opted to accommodate traveling iPod-users through car and plane connectivity. Only improving, Apple continues to bring the best in music and video conveniences.

The first of travel conveniences starts with iPod car connections. Stuart Corner of iTWire.com reports, “more than 70 percent of 2007-model US automobiles will offer iPod integration.” More than just adapter-ready compatibilities, such cars will allow the iPod to be completely manageable via the vehicle’s audio controls. For the utmost iPod experience, Apple has presented simplified use in automobiles.

It doesn’t stop there, though. Apple has teamed up with 6 airlines to “offer iPod integration with the video screens,” as Tom Samiljan of Yahoo Tech reports. Aiming for release in mid 2007, airlines teamed up with Apple will have iPod compatible screens on the seats which also charge the device. Sounds like a success in the making.

Apple is covering their bases, teaming up with automobile manufacturers and major airlines. With added convenience in cars and planes, they prove to conquer land and sky.
