The latest in Internet, website, gadget, and electronic trends. | Leave the Paper Trail Behind | by Mika Ortega | January 12, 2007 |
There are a few ways busy people remember what they must do in a day. Some bury themselves in Post-its, others chant what they mustn’t forget, and many pester others to remind them of their tasks. Whatever your mnemonic device is, you can be sure that Jott.com will top it.
The clever beta site launched with a bang December 8th, 2006. Already having been featured by Yahoo! Tech and Entrepreneur27.org, Jott’s voice to text services are creating a buzz all over the web. The site offers handy help in reminding yourself and your contacts of mind-weighing tasks, requiring only a short (and free!) registration in return. Call, record, and send a message via text or email wherever and whenever.
The site demonstrates Basic Jotting (sending a message to yourself), Jottcasting (sending a message to another), and Grouping Jotts (sending a message to a group), all of which seem very practical. Fast, facile, and free, Jott relays these voice-recorded notes to text by both “machine and human transcription,” transmitting the most accurate message possible. The Tek Report says it best commenting, “It appears to be a novel idea, and definitely shows some promise.”
What exactly is Jott promising for the future? CEO of Jott.com, John Pollard, comments in a personal interview, “Jott’s focus will always be on being simple and immediately useful. We will not pile on features, but will continue to improve voice powered scenarios like collaboration, messaging, and generally getting things done.” Recognizing the importance of a working site, not just a clever yet malfunctioning idea, Jott hopes to continue delivering a helpful service for everyone.

The latest in Internet, website, gadget, and electronic trends. | Say Tough Without a Word | by Mika Ortega | January 5, 2007 |
Let’s face it- tech gadgets have become image-altering accessories. Whether it be your urban-hip Bluetooth earpiece, punk rock iPod, or high profile corporate Blackberry, your electronics can say a whole lot about who you are and what you’re into. For the tough guys, butt-kickin’ moms, and hardcore teens, Panasonic introduces the Toughbook, a cool new laptop with rugged looks and durability to match.
The old saying, ‘pictures are worth a 1,000 words,’ is certainly true in this case, as the flash banner on Toughbooks’ homepage says it all. See this newly released laptop endure liquid spills, bangs and bumps, extreme climate, and much more with your very own eyes! Tested for utmost durability, the Toughbook is “certified tough,” as the site says. Reporting extensive drop and vibration tests, water and dust resistance, and performance under high and low temperatures, the tests show this notebook to be operable in the ‘toughest’ situations.
You don’t work in a cave, underwater, or inside of a furnace? Panasonic has different versions of the Toughbook. If you don’t need the highest level of durability, go for the “business-rugged” which carry the same slogan promise, “Work anywhere. Risk Nothing.” Toughbook Y5, W5, and T5 models have, “super-long battery life, integrated wireless LAN,” and feature a lightweight design. So whether you’re working in the rainforest or in the office, Panasonic’s line of Toughbooks can work for you!
